Job Title: New Business Development Executive

Salary: £30,000 per annum, plus uncapped commission (OTE £40,000 +)

The Company:
At ESM we manage the design and build of exhibition spaces to create an engaging and memorable stand for our clients and their brand. All work is undertaken in house at our Kent headquarters by our experienced team who have been working on exhibition stands and trade fairs for a number of years, bringing both expertise and the latest trends to every project. We produce some genuinely beautiful work; working on some fantastic projects for a number of agencies, but also a large volume of work for exhibitors looking to stand out at their events predominantly in the UK. We are recruiting for the new position of business development manager to actively create and pursue leads within the exhibition industry through their own sales activity, and look to convert them with the assistance of the current management team and directors in the business.
The Position:
Sales activity will consist of visiting shows and conducting market research both online and in-person to establish the efficient targeting of campaigns towards relevant exhibitors consistent with our own position in the marketplace, followed by email campaigns and sales calls to look to generate enquiries.
Sales activity should be targeted over both the long and short term – looking to fill gaps in our schedule, promoting our business to other relevant industry players whether agencies or organisers, drawing additional sales from other revenue streams where our core customers are involved – but more often targeting end users and high-profile accounts and exhibitors who do not know us to grow our business over the longer term.
The Candidate:
Any successful candidate would be a self-starter, confident, whilst looking to work in partnership with our current team with the promotion of key marketing messages and production of marketing material to support their activities where required. You will not have a team to supervise, instead you will initially be the sole dedicated sales person within the business spending all of your time on the generation of new business and leads. Please note: it has been some time since our business has needed to actively seek sales via dedicated sales activity – so you will be starting very much from scratch and making this role your own.
Skills and Experience:
- Candidates should be literate with excellent communication skills both written and verbal when seeking to establish strong relationships with potential leads
- An understanding of sales psychology and techniques – how to structure your approach, and maximize chances of conversion are key
- A knowledge of exhibitions and events is not essential – a strong sales background with proven success is.
- Proficiency with online platforms such as Linked In would be an advantage
- A strong team ethos is also essential – as the handing over of enquiries and client management is important – with conversion to a degree out of your hands, so that you are able to focus on establishing a steady stream of leads

Extra Information:
Over time you will increasingly work from home, with a once weekly in-person meeting at our factory in Sittingbourne, and other meetings as and when required. However, time spent initially in our offices with access to our factory as you look to understand the industry and our business will be valuable – subject to your starting knowledge of the industry.
