About the role:
Reporting to the Transport Manager, the Transport Planner is responsible for managing a team of drivers, forklift operators and office assistants to provide excellent transport services internally and to our external customers, ensuring company goals and targets are achieved. The Transport Planner will understand the requirements of our customers and in turn carry out effective load/route planning. They will ensure company compliance with all policies, legislation and health and safety procedures. They will identify operational issues, potential problems and opportunities to improve the service and efficiency of the transport department.
Responsibilities:
- Planning routes throughout the UK as per customer orders
- Briefing & debriefing drivers, ensuring they get the correct and full information for deliveries/collections
- Downloading tachograph data and communicating reports
- Managing vehicle service schedules
- Helping to manage calls and email enquiries, sending and receiving information from customers, suppliers and drivers
- Accepting and dealing with customers’ orders, tracking orders and providing customers with updates, organising paperwork for customer orders
- Problem solving, fleet optimisation, reducing fuel and overhead costs and maximising drivers’ hours
- Helping other staff with any ad-hoc and other administration duties
- Continue to build and expand customer base for transport services
- Adhering to Health and Safety Practices and Driver Regulations
- Organising Sub-contractors, booking loads and recording shipments
- Managing POD’s, and all paperwork within the Transport Office
- In all aspects of your role sustainability should be considered and looked at to ensure we reduce the company’s impact on the planet
- Help integrate 5S within the department working to improve all processes
- Embrace the culture change programme and lead by example and highlight when fellow employees do not adhere to the beliefs
- Provide support to the management team and carry out additional tasks and responsibilities as are reasonably compatible with this job description and its objectives as and when required
Skills Required:
- Two years proven experience in a similar Transport Planner Role
- Strong geographical knowledge of UK
- Knowledge of driver hours rules and regulations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Competent use of MS Office – particularly Microsoft Excel and Outlook
- Organisational Skills, including good time keeping and prioritizing of tasks
- High attention to detail, professional and approachable
- Can work as part of a team as well as on own initiative
- Can work under pressure to meet deadlines
- Willing to adapt to changing situations and quick to make decisions
- Positive can-do attitude, reliable and hardworking
- Able to handle customers and staff in difficult situations
Desirable:
- Sage 200 – advantageous but training will be given
- Forklift licence (Ideal but not essential, will provide training)
- Possess energy, drive, ambition, flexibility & focuses on results
- A good internal communicator, influencer & team member
- Ability to grow & develop, to meet future challengers at Verplas Ltd
