Job Title: Student Support Specialist

Location: Wolverhampton

Salary: £24,000 – £34,000 per annum

Job Type: Permanent, Full-time

Job Outline & Purpose:

  • To improve standards of SEND support across the organisation, for students that have EHCPs, driving the implementation of support and interventions.
  • To work collaboratively with centres, targeting individualised support to students with SEND/EHCPs, helping to improve outcomes.
  • To schedule and organise SEND training for staff; ensuing that they are able to develop their knowledge of students with SEND and effective strategies/interventions they can implement for support
  • Help to develop resources that build on EHCP interventions.
  • To help refine the Support Plan process, allowing EHCP interventions to link into student support.
  • To safeguard the welfare of all students, preventing radicalisation and promoting British Values

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:

Delivery

  • To support centres to respond to EHCP consultations.
  • To work closely with centres and local authorities to ensure that we are able to meet the individual needs of all students enrolled on programme that have EHCPs.
  • To oversee the assessment of students with EHCPs, liaising with staff to ensure strategies and interventions are transferred into Support Plans.
  • To meet with all EHCP students monthly to oversee progress, act as an advocate and ensure that they are receiving the support/interventions that they are entitled to.
  • Build on the strategies outlined in EHCPs/Support Plans and help to refine students’ use of the recommended support in their learning.
  • Work with staff to review strategies and interventions on an ongoing basis, ensuring that students are receiving the support as outlined in their EHCP/Support Plan.
  • To support centres with the annual review process for EHCPs and attend annual reviews as necessary.
  • Ensure staff are able to interpret EHCPs and use the documents to develop Juniper Support Plans.
  • Source and recommend appropriate support resources.
  • To provide effective advice to staff in dealing with student issues

HR

  • Maintain and develop policies and processes relating to EHCP and SEND interventions and ensure successful implementation.
  • To continuously develop the knowledge of staff, providing training to complement existing knowledge.
  • Monitor effectiveness of staff training sessions & make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Develop use of Cascade to maximise effectiveness.

Training & Development

  • Develop own knowledge to ensure compliance and awareness of current developments and good practice in relation to SEND/EHCPs and effective interventions for post 16 students.
  • To deliver high quality training and workshop sessions to new and existing staff.
  • To provide robust training & development for staff to support students with appropriate interventions to identified barriers, including SEND/EHCPs, in order to improve standards of delivery, retention and support offered across the company.
  • To act as a mentor to new/underperforming staff to raise standards in teaching, learning & assessment.
  • To contribute to the organisation and delivery of Company Training Days.

Targets

  • To ensure the curriculum maximises the opportunity for staff to achieve delivery targets

Person Specification:

Essential Qualifications

  • Level 3 teaching
  • Dyslexia, ADHD and autism CPD training

Abilities

  • Knowledge & experience of standards in teaching & training
  • Sound understanding of student needs, barriers and effective interventions
  • Good presentation and communications skills
  • To work well under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Highly motivated

Essential

  • Ability to train and develop others

  • Good IT skills
  • To use initiative and work independently

Desirable Qualifications

  • Level 3 dyslexia
  • Level 2 ADHD
  • Coaching/mentoring
  • Level 4 teaching
  • Level 5 teaching
  • Post Graduate Specialist Teaching qualification in SEND

Other Information:

This role involves travel to and working at all of our centres, so post holder must be mobile and willing to travel.
