Job Title: Directed Study Hub Supervisor
Location: Hulme, Manchester
Salary: £18,656.27 – £19,318.35 per annum (SFCA Support Staff pay spine points 8 – 9 (0.8554 FTE) depending on experience)

Working Hours: 37 hours per week
The College is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and well-organised individual to work alongside existing staff as part of the Library and Study Centres department. The department is responsible for maintaining purposeful working environments in all four of the College’s centres – the Library, Learning and Resource Centre, Directed Study Hub, and Study Centre – as well as for meeting the teaching and learning needs of staff and students through the provision of high-quality physical and digital resources. The main purpose of the role is to supervise effective student use of the Directed Study Hub, a dedicated centre for timetabled individual study.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain a purposeful working ethos in the Directed Study Hub, ensuring excellent levels of behaviour through effective use of the college and departmental behaviour strategies
- Provide operational support and technical assistance in the use of IT equipment, facilities and resources in person, by phone or email
- Contribute to the maintenance of an attractive working environment
- Work collaboratively and positively within the Library and Study Centres team
- Assist in the preparation of physical displays, posters and digital marketing material
- Undertake assigned departmental tasks, including the processing of books and other resources
- Provide cover across the Library and other Study Centres when required
- Assist with the maintenance of a digital booking system for the Library and Study Centres
- Assist in the development of the Centres through supporting new initiatives towards wider college strategic objectives
- Work positively and collaboratively within the wider college Enabling Department, undertaking designated tasks and responsibilities to support cross-college projects
- Assist with departmental and college-wide promotional events as required, e.g. Marketing events, Open Days, Taster Days and the Fresher’s Fair
- Undertake cash-handling including printing credits and fine payments
- Assist with exam invigilation as required
Staffing
- To complete new staff induction activities as directed by the Learning & Development Manager and other College leaders.
- Complete a programme of staff development activities including those relating to statutory requirements, for example on Safeguarding or GDPR commitments.
- To undertake further staff development where appropriate, including attending Awarding Organisation training, for example, as directed by the line manager.
Quality Assurance
- To ensure the effective operation of assurance systems
- To contribute to the process of the setting of targets within the department and to work towards their achievement
- To implement College quality procedures, especially through contribution to the self-assessment process
- To contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the department in line with agreed College procedures including evaluation against quality standards and performance criteria.
- To contribute to modification and improvement where required.
Communications
- To ensure familiarity with the department’s aims and objectives.
- To ensure effective communication/consultation as appropriate with students, staff, parents of students and appropriate individuals external to the College.
- To liaise with relevant external bodies as appropriate.
Marketing and Liaison
- To contribute to the College liaison and marketing activities.
- To work with the department to deliver other marketing activities including for example, Open Days.
- To link with external agencies as appropriate.
- To contribute to the department’s collection of data on destinations as appropriate.

Qualifications:
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
- A relevant degree level qualification or equivalent in an appropriate subject (Desirable)
