Job Title: Policy and Influence Officer

Location: Bristol

Salary: £33,290 to £39,875

Job Type: Full time, Permanent

The Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) is a Bristol-based national charity that supports people and organisations across the UK to tackle the climate emergency and end the suffering caused by cold homes. We do this by sharing our knowledge, practical experience and policy insights.

The Role

This role has been created in order to increase our influence and impact on policy and we are establishing a core group of CSE employees who will work together on policy issues.

You will need to be able to work with CSE colleagues to develop our policy positions, build relationships with national policy makers and partners, help represent CSE’s views externally, and provide strategic insight and recommendations for CSE’s responses to formal policy consultations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the Centre for Sustainable Energy’s (CSE) approach to influencing Government, regulatory bodies and corporate policy in order to achieve the organisation’s mission and further our work across its six work programme areas.
  • Developing CSE’s reputation and profile as a trusted source of well researched, practical information to inform Government consultations and wider policy development.
  • Working with CSE colleagues to develop our policy positions, building relationships with national policy makers and partners, representing CSE’s views externally, and providing strategic insight and recommendations for CSE’s responses to formal policy consultations.
  • Developing policy solutions to increase take-up of retrofit and energy efficiency measures in domestic and community buildings, advocating policy measures to enable these solutions with national and local government and other stakeholders.

The Candidate:

  • Degree relevant to policy and public affairs
  • An understanding of how Government develops policy e.g. use of consultations and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proven analytical skills, using both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to tailor content to different audiences.
  • Research and information retrieval skills, along with recording findings in an accessible, organised system.
  • Excellent interpersonal, Skills and the ability to work collaboratively and build consensus.
  • Able to operate in a fast-paced environment, effectively managing a range of competing priorities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
