Leave: 25 rising to 27 days after a year plus bank holidays
B:Music’s mission is to inspire a love of live music, through performance, participation, and learning. We are the music charity responsible for Symphony Hall and Town Hall, two iconic venues in the heart of Birmingham. Each year, these venues welcome over half a million people to around 800 concerts and events. We are looking for a technician with a lighting bias, together with other technical experience.
Job Purpose:
Working at B:Music as a casual Technician is a great opportunity to work in two of the most iconic halls in Birmingham, Symphony Hall, and Town Hall, with the bonus of flexible shifts to fit around the other important things in life.
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our team working on a rota’d, event driven basis. As a technician, you will be offering technical support to both large-scale touring productions and our own productions in various event spaces on site. Ideally with lighting experience you will work in that capacity for shows and events. The role involves ensuring a high standard of service is maintained and providing a safe environment for all clients and visitors to the Halls.
Key Accountabilities:
- Operate as in-house lighting technician for a range of events and ensure that all requirements are achieved for our events.
- Work in conjunction with visiting technicians and artists and liaise with other Technicians and the Production Team, reacting positively to any last-minute changes.
- In addition to lighting, act as Stage Manager, Assistant Stage Manager, Sound Technician, or any other role that might be required, that you have the skills and experience for. You must be prepared to learn new skills.
- Maintain all equipment and report all faults to the appropriate individual and record all Health and Safety issues correctly.
- Show constant commitment, enthusiasm, and professionalism.
- Supporting visiting crew and contractors, to ensure compliance with venue policies and standards.
- Supporting other team members, including other casual and freelance technicians, volunteers, and apprentices.
- To follow established safe working practices in the pursuance of duties and adhere to the company health and safety policies, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Undertake any necessary training as required by the department head.
- Duties will vary from time to time and the postholder will be expected to perform other such duties that are reasonable comparable.
Person Specification:
- At least 1 year’s practical experience within a technical department of a similar organisation or live events venue.
- Lighting experience
- Knowledge and experience of Avolites lighting desks (preferably the Quartz and Arena)
- Working knowledge and experience of lighting design, rigging, operation, fault finding and maintenance
- Able to work evenings, weekends in line with events.
- A professional and customer focused attitude and excellent time management skills
- Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a supportive and engaged team.
- Physically fit, as physical work, working at height and manual handling will be involved.
- A willingness to learn new skills.
