Job Title: Programme Manager – Digital Ethics and AI Safety

Salary: £32,000 – £44,000 per annum based upon experience plus discretionary bonus and comprehensive benefits

This is an opportunity to play a key role in enabling the future direction of AI and Digital Ethics in the UK. At a time when the legal and regulatory landscape for AI in the UK and globally is shifting the role and importance of digital ethics has never been more relevant. Right now, big questions are being asked about the role, importance and operationalisation of ethical principles, the possible risks of the development and adoption of cutting-edge AI and how to get AI safety right. It is more important than ever that industry has a clear voice in this high profile, complex, technical and increasingly global conversation. We are looking for someone who can join techUK’s AI team to take forward our established work on digital ethics to the next stage of development and work with members to ensure techUK remains a relevant, credible and an influential voice in the AI ethics and safety debate, discussion and community.
About the Role:
The Digital Ethics and AI Safety Programme Manager role will work at the forefront of the ethical and safety issues being raised by the development and adoption of emerging AI technologies, including Generative AI, Frontier AI and Facial Recognition. As well as build on techUK’s already established work in digital ethics, AI Assurance with the CDEI, AI Standards with the UK Standards Hub and the annual techUK Digital Ethics Summit this Programme Manager will also take ownership for proposing and developing new, exciting opportunities for techUK members to showcase and demonstrate how the use of ethical and responsible AI can be operationalised and adopted through webinars, roundtables, podcasts and other events.
We are looking for someone who has their finger on the pulse of the current digital ethics and AI risks and safety discussion and can develop close trusted relationships with techUK members, decision makers, government officials, civil society.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and drive the development, implementation and communication of techUK’s advocacy and thought leadership on Digital Ethics and AI Safety including AI Assurance, AI Standards, AI Safety and continuing to lead techUK’s Digital Ethics Working Group including the delivery of the annual techUK Digital Ethics Summit
- Become an active participant in the UK’s AI and digital ethics community ensuring techUK’s voice on issues of the day are relevant, credible and influential by building trusted stakeholder relationships and an external reputation
- Delivering value to techUK member companies by leading techUK’s Leadership Committees, Digital Ethics Working Group and organising events and sessions throughout the year
- Be responsible for maintaining and growing techUK’s membership base in AI and Digital Ethics
- Promote programme content through insights, opinions, podcasts, campaign weeks, social media, and PR activities
- Work closely with other techUK teams to assist in a successful programme of press coverage, events, internal and external marketing and to ensure they are kept fully informed of major policy initiatives
About you:
Essential Knowledge and Experience:
- Knowledge of the current Digital Ethics and AI debate and discussion in the UK
- Experience of work in a public affairs, advocacy and policy driven environment
- Engagement with senior public policy and business leaders at board and CEO level
- Interest in current issues and trends in Digital Ethics, Data Ethics and AI
- Proven experience of taking a leadership role in event organisation
