The role:
The Development Engineer / Mechanical Engineer will undertake the development and testing of pyrotechnic, explosive, and other articles and devices to support product design and post design in accordance with company procedures.
The responsibilities of the role are (but not limited to):
- Prepare proposals for product development including details project plans, resource scheduling and costing.
- Sourcing materials and equipment for prototype manufacture.
- Perform product development activities in accordance with agreed timescales and costs.
- Assess measured data to establish performance parameters.
- Collate and assess safety data to identify hazards in use.
- Support FMEA activities and collate data to report on technical development activities.
- Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with Stakeholders to ensure the effective transition of development products into volume manufacture.
- Undertake research work to support feasibility studies and keep abreast of technological advancement through published literature and study.
- To travel as required, to attend external tests and trials, meetings and seminars, in the UK and abroad.
Mechanical Engineer / Development Engineer Specification:
- Right to live and work in the UK, with ability to obtain suitable level security clearance (5 years British residency) necessary
- Degree (or equivalent) in mechanical engineering or related subject or Level 4 Diploma in an engineering or related discipline
- Proven experience in initiating product and process development work in a technical facility, setting up equipment and manufacturing samples for testing, demonstration and customer trials.
- Demonstrate working knowledge within a highly regulated environment.
- Demonstrate experience of using 3D CAD Modelling
- Ability to collate, assess and measure data for report writing purposes.
- Ability to perform hands on tooling and machine set-up
- Demonstrate experience of transferring technology into the operational areas, preparing the necessary documentation.

This role will be worked over a 4.5 day week; Monday to Thursday 08:00 – 16:45 and Friday 08:00 – 12:30. Flexibility in this role is critical to the success of supporting the team.
