Salary: £27,275 – Increasing to £31,059 following successful completion of a 6-month probation period

The post-holder will work as a part of the Asylum Services team who support residents of Napier Barracks; providing advice, guidance, assistance and support to eligible asylum seekers.

The post holder will contribute to the overall success of the organisation in accordance with Migrant Help’s aims and objectives by proving a high-quality service to its clients

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice and support to asylum seekers, within the specification of the AIRE contract with the Home Office
  • Provide a support service to asylum seekers to complete asylum support application forms (ASF) for support under Section 95 and Section 4 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.
  • Ensure that all applicants are aware of eligibility criteria and their obligations to provide supporting evidence within required timescales and assist clients to notify the authority of prescribed change of circumstances
  • Provide telephone advice as may be required and support the telephone advice line by assisting clients to complete asylum support applications by telephone and by appointment
  • Provide guidance on immigration related matters advice within the scope of the relevant Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC) accreditation level
  • Provide advice on general matters e.g., sign-posting in addition to providing advice on the Voluntary Assisted Return
  • Act as a contact with the Home Office, Social Services, Healthcare Professionals and other relevant agencies for applicants with additional support needs
  • You will work closely with the AASC provider, home office, Health team and other NGO/VCS organisations based at Napier
  • Deliver key touch point briefings to a high standard so that applicants fully understand the information provided. Ensure that information books are given out accordingly
  • Make contact with dispersal accommodation providers and other relevant agencies, providing letters as appropriate, to ensure clients are appropriately supported in their dispersal area
  • Keep full accurate and up-to-date case records, complete case follows up within the requisite time scales and undertake any necessary administrative tasks

About you:

  • Experience of undertaking advocacy in a sensitive manner
  • An understanding and observance of impartiality and confidentiality
  • Skills in liaison and negotiation with other agencies on behalf of clients

What else to expect:

  • This post is based at Napier Barracks, however may require travel and therefore flexibility will be required
  • The team operate Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:30am and 5pm
  • This post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check & Counter Terrorism Clearance (CTC) For CTC application applicant must:
  • Be able to provide a valid passport eg. 10-year full British passport, EU or non-EU Passport with indefinite leave to remain
  • Be able to provide continuous UK address history for the previous 5 years
  • Provide full employment history for the previous 3 years and/or suitable documentation to cover any gaps in employment
