Job Title – Super Precision CNC Grinding Specialists

Working Patterns – Days/Backs rotational or Nights

Location – Plymouth, Devon (relocation packages available)

Salary – £13-£16 per hour, plus shift premium.

We partner with the world’s leading OEMS in Super Precision bearing applications across Aerospace, Defence, Vacuum, and high-end machine tool markets.

Through training and development, we are looking to create a team with advanced, next generation grinding technology skills across our Agile – New Product Introduction (NPI) cell.

We are searching for candidates that have the potential to offer the highest level of CNC grinding skills in the land, individuals that have expertise and are comfortable working with Super Precision tolerances and have a natural high-level acumen for precision machining. With a high ‘Right First Time’ talent, complimented with a demonstrated problem solving and creative ability, we are looking for people that are passionate about their high-level grinding profession.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce Super precision parts from drawings with optimum grinding solution.
  • Hands on approach to set up and operate super precision CNC grinding machines at a meticulous level on a diverse range of components.
  • To be able to select the most suitable machines, dressing technologies, wheels, and abrasives based on material characteristics, hardness, and component intricacies to help create a robust process and parameter database.
  • Harness advanced programming skills and experience to optimize CNC controls, meticulously tailoring grinding parameters to achieve refined results, surface finish, dimensions, tolerances, and roundness.
  • Employ precise measurement instruments such as digital heads, and gauges to inspect and evaluate finished components, leaving no margin for deviation from exact specifications. Machining to micron tolerances.
  • Undertake routine maintenance tasks on CNC grinding machines to ensure the machines stay at optimum performance. Ensure TPM schedules are appropriate and adhered to.
  • Collaborate synergistically with cross-functional teams, including production and engineering, to refine grinding methodologies, enhancing overall operational efficiency.
  • To be a key member of the team to deliver short lead times to new customers.
  • Enforce a stringent adherence to safety protocols, cultivating an environment of uncompromising safety awareness, and upholding an impeccably organized workspace.
  • Demonstrate adeptness in identifying and resolving technical hitches that may arise during operations, ensuring minimal disruptions to the super precision manufacturing process.
  • Actively partake in continuous learning initiatives, keeping abreast of cutting-edge CNC grinding techniques and technologies, thus perpetuating a culture of perpetual improvement.
  • Work in a team to share and nurture best practice capability including working with 3rd party grinding experts to develop and push boundaries of our internal capabilities to new levels.

Skills Qualifications, skills, and personal qualities

  • Impressive grasp of CNC controls and programming language specific to super precision grinding operations. Experience of Fanuc programming (Studer S40 & S145) would be an advantage.
  • Experience working with an array of wheels, abrasives, and dressing methods.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to the highest level.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, matched with an unwavering commitment to generating work of the highest calibre.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, facilitating seamless collaboration within the team. The intention is to create a ‘think tank’ of CNC grinding expertise across the business.
  • Adeptness in assimilating safety best practices and their practical application.
  • Can clearly demonstrate a high level of general engineering acumen.
  • Possession of formal training or certification within the realm of CNC machining or super precision grinding is strongly preferred. C+ in GCSE maths and English. NVQ level 2 or City & Guilds in engineering.
  • Willing and capable to undertake ongoing training to continuously develop and enhance technical ability to the highest standard. (on-site Studer training will be provided as a starter specific package.)
