Job Title: Plant and Transport Manager (Utilities)

Salary: £40,000 to £50,000 dependent on prior experience

Excalon is a privately owned company established in 2002. With recent new business wins with multiple major clients adding to our existing portfolio of framework agreements and ongoing Major Projects, this is a particularly exciting time to join our business.
The role:
We now have a new and exciting opportunity for a Plant and Transport Manager to lead all Plant and Transport Operations for Excalon. Reporting to the Support Services Director, and responsible for a mixed fleet of 150 vehicles including HGV’s, Pick-Ups, Vans, and Cars, in addition to multiple plant items, the successful candidate will build robust cross company relationships and drive an effective operational service.

Travel and Flexibility
You will be required to travel to multiple sites, as necessary.
Key Accountabilities
- Manage the transport/plant hire function to ensure and excellent operational service.
- Directly manage all plant and transport activities and those who operate it.
- Manage a mixed fleet of vehicles, JCB drivers and plant.
- Control operator’s licence/tachograph compliance.
- Keep accurate plant hiring records and minimise external hiring costs where possible.
- Ensure all vehicles are fit to drive and fully licenced and meeting legislation requirements.
- Ensure that all internal fleet and plant items are maintained and serviced effectively and efficiently and keep all appropriate paperwork.
- Work with accrediting bodies to achieve transport quality accreditations e.g. FORS
- Repair all damaged internal fleet/plant and external plant when applicable.
- Ensure external Plant is repaired if cost effective.
- Produce monthly Damage/Repair/Maintenance for each item of the internal fleet/plant.
- Manage and develop the staff resource, as required, to issue and maintain internal fleet/plant.
- Meet all necessary requirements and objectives to ensure all internal fleet/plant issued conforms to all Legal, Clients and Excalon specifications and requirements.
- Ensure that all new starters are correctly inducted in the use, issue, maintenance of all internal fleet/plant issued to them.
- Provide monthly statistics for Safety Dept. /Directors Report as requested.
- Ensure operational staff are supported with correct equipment.
- Build robust cross Company relationships and work collaboratively to ensure project delivery.
- Promote and maintain high standards of health and safety at all times.
Skills and Experience Required
- Previous haulage management experience within construction
- CPC Card Holder
- Waste Management & Re-cycling experience
- Category C Driving Licence or above
- EPOC Certificate
- Full Clean Driving Licence
- Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Hours of Work
You will be required to work 47.5 hours per week Monday to Friday working within the working window of 6am to 5.30pm during which one hour may be taken for lunch. Specific working times will be driven by the work programme and some weekend work may be required to meet the needs of the business.
