Job Title: Engagement Manager

Location: Salford

Salary: £27,000 – £32,000 p/a

Job Type: Permanent, full time (37.5 hours in a 5 day week)

About the role:

lead on the effective planning, management, delivery and evaluation of The Lowry’s Arts for Social Change programme and targeted Learning & Engagement work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of The Lowry’s Learning & Engagement (L&E) team, making effective contributions that support key elements of the L&E strategy.
  • Line manage the Engagement Coordinator, ensuring their wellbeing and professional development is supported. Monitoring the Engagement Coordinators effective administration and coordination of activities and ensuring they deliver a robust pastoral support offer for all young people across the Arts for Social Change Programme.
  • Prioritise safeguarding and develop positive relationships with participants, adopting a responsive approach to young people’s needs.
  • Effectively recruit, communicate, contract, manage and support freelance artists and support staff, ensuring diverse representation to reflect participants and communities.
  • Work with the Head of L&E to connect the Arts for Social Change Programme to The Lowry’s wider programme inside of the building and outside the building in the community.
  • Advocate for the wider work of the L&E team and The Lowry. Uphold a professional approach when communicating and presenting the work of the L&E team internally across departments and externally at local, regional and national networks and conferences as required.
  • Work closely with L&E colleagues to connect as appropriate our Arts for Social Change Programme and targeted work to the wider Learning & Engagement programme.
  • Be responsible for the effective project management and efficient administration of programmes and projects.
  • Be responsible for appropriate budgets, regularly reporting to the Head of Learning & Engagement & Director of Learning & Engagement. Completing monthly budget reviews & providing a financial narrative. Producing forecasts as and when requested by The Lowry or external funders.
  • Maintain effective systems of communication within The Lowry, building strong relationships with key departments who will be central to effective delivery.
  • Promote and comply with legislation and The Lowry’s policies on Safeguarding, Security, Data protection, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Health and Safety both in the delivery of services and the treatment of others.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Understanding of the importance of consistency and the proven ability to creatively work with and support young people with adverse lived experiences and underrepresented community groups.
  • Strong project and budget management skills.
  • Excellent communication and networking skills with colleagues and partners.
  • The ability to prioritise, work under pressure and deliver against set aims and objectives to agreed deadlines.
  • The ability to drive creative ideas from conception through to completion.
  • Report writing and administrative skills.
  • IT skills including Outlook, Artifax, Word and Excel; Database skills; Internet skills.
  • An understanding of approaches to working with complex and vulnerable young people and groups.
  • Understanding of and commitment to equality and diversity.
  • Knowledge of digital/performing &/or visual arts practice.
  • Understanding of relevant and current Vulnerable Adult and Child Protection issues.
  • Understanding of the needs of freelance artists.
