The Role:

As a Payroll Administrator, you will play a crucial role in managing complex payroll processes and handling inquiries. Your expertise will be essential in efficiently processing mid-month, weekly, and month-end payrolls and effectively managing timesheets, both manually and electronically.

Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the smooth running of the monthly payroll by working closely with HR Advisors and overseeing the entire payroll cycle
- Act as the primary contact for payroll issues, promptly addressing and resolving any payroll-related inquiries that arise
- Ensure the accuracy of all HR and finance information entered into the payroll system
- Apply your knowledge of NHS regulations and company Pension Scheme to administer pensions for existing members and scheme leavers
- Utilise your understanding of relevant terms and conditions to accurately process pay and pay variations
- Serve as an expert resource and lead on all payroll matters, providing guidance and support to the HR team, managers, and other stakeholders
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulations regarding sick pay, maternity/paternity/shared parental pay, including both statutory and occupational requirements
- Acquire and apply knowledge of NHS and company pension scheme regulations, becoming the liaison point between staff, NHS Pensions, and payroll
- Collaborate with HR Advisors to ensure accurate processing of sickness absence on the HR system, submitting supporting documentation as necessary
- Handle all pay queries, such as sick pay entitlement, unpaid leave, and casual arrangements
- Identify root causes of inaccurate pay, working with HR Advisors and line managers to rectify specific situations, update processes, and improve understanding to prevent repeat occurrences
- Assist the HR team in developing new reports to produce effective and accurate payroll reports
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Preferably, 2 years of experience in a fast-paced payroll role
- Comprehensive understanding of statutory payments, including Statutory Sick Pay, Statutory Maternity SPP, PAYE, and National Insurance
- Strong numerical skills and proficiency in manual payroll calculations
- Sound knowledge of Excel, including the ability to create formulas, manipulate data, and generate reports
Desirable:
- Experience working within an NHS environment
- Familiarity with iTrent or other payroll software
