Job Title: Software Developer (Full Stack)
Location: St Ives, Cornwall
Salary: £30k – £40K (Depending on experience)
Job type: Full time – Permanent
H Tempest Ltd is the nation’s largest school photography company with over 500 employees. Our Head Office and Laboratory is based in St Ives, Cornwall and our Photographers are resident throughout the UK. We take photographs of children at playgroups and nurseries, primary and secondary schools and graduates at universities and colleges as well as the Armed Forces and Corporate Photography.
The Role
We are looking to expand our Software Development team. We have several new developments focusing on e-commerce, automated ordering etc which include room for R&D projects to help us keep ahead of our competitors in the photography and imaging space. We also have several systems built upon google firebase, a No-SQL technology that we need to migrate away from to a structured SQL database, realigning our technologies with the direction of the business. We are looking to keep things simple.
H Tempest History in Technology
The progress of technology at Tempest has moved in cycles. We first moved from a wet photography process to a digital hybrid complete with a main order pipeline. The second wave saw the introduction of order websites across numerous markets enabling online ordering and automated order injection straight into our manufacturing process, along with numerous management tools to support new demands from both B2C and B2B customers.
The third wave saw a redesign of the school orders website along with a move to google cloud and JavaScript technologies. This was followed by an intense period responding to the pandemic to introduce contactless photography and supporting management systems. By this time the lab had already moved to a fully digital print process.
Now we are starting the fourth wave where we are stabilising and simplifying our systems, moving away from certain technologies keeping our technology stack simple for core systems and reengineering / replacing legacy ones. But we are still allowing choice and creativity to explorer newer technologies with R & D projects.
