Location: Winchester (mobile)

Salary: £23,500 – £26,000

Job type: Full Time – Permanent

About us:

Supporting people experiencing homelessness in Hampshire, we offer much more than just a bed for the night. Our aim is to provide a safe, caring temporary home environment in which our vulnerable residents can rebuild their lives and benefit from our tailored support. We currently accommodate 22 people across four venues in the Winchester area with our main site in the centre of the city. We are open every day and night of the year and, with the support of our volunteers, we enable people to break the cycle of homelessness and transform their lives.

About the role: (Full and Part time hours available)

Would you like to help people to rebuild their lives after experiencing homelessness?

We are looking for someone experienced in working with vulnerable people, to join our small team of support workers. This new role will focus on providing tailored and effective support to our residents specifically at the point that they are ready to move on from The Winchester Beacon and into their own accommodation.

You will identify their social care needs and offer ongoing support in relation to housing, health and work with others to encourage and nurture their integration into the local community to reduce the risk of social isolation. You will empower our former residents to develop the skills that they need to be able to sustain their tenancy and create a stable life.

Key responsibilities:

Provision of tailored support:

  • The Tenancy Sustainment Worker will work closely with our other support staff to devise and implement a personalised support plan for each resident as they move on
  • You will help residents to secure furniture and other items when moving on at the same time ensuring items are suitable, safely installed and in working order.
  • You will support and empower residents to maintain their tenancies after they have moved on from us and help them to further develop their independent living skills.
  • You will provide structured ongoing practical and emotional support as well as proactively responding to requests for help from former residents at the same time ensuring safeguarding is a priority and residents live safely.

Develop links in the local community:

  • Liaise with local agencies and organisations to build strong links which help former residents to integrate into their local community.
  • Carry out home visits regularly and signpost and encourage former residents to participate in local initiatives and work alongside and with other Beacon projects.

Analysis and evaluation:

  • Keep accurate records of interactions with former residents to track support provided and produce statistics as and when required
  • Carry out regular evaluation and feedback with former residents to ensure the support is helping in the way that is needed.

About the candidate:

  • Experience of providing support to vulnerable people, ideally within a housing or social care setting and with a good knowledge of housing related support
  • Experience of working with a caseload of service users with varied needs and an understanding of trauma-informed care and of lone working
  • Ability to identify and be sensitive to the needs of others whilst maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality whilst being diplomatic and discreet

Hours: Full time (37.5 hours) or part-time (minimum of 24 hours per week). Hours can be worked flexibly by agreement Monday to Friday and can include some home working.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Tuesday 20th June 2023. Early application is encouraged as we will review applications throughout the advertising period and reserve the right to close the advert at any time.
