The Role:

This programme of applied research in the investigation and prevention of internet-facilitated and contact child sexual abuse and exploitation seeks to utilise data-driven approaches to exploit new and existing data sources and harness the power of data to address critical gaps in current understanding and translating new knowledge directly back into policy and practice for the investigation and prevention of some of the most harmful crimes facing society today.

The programme aims to utilise new and existing data and technology to reveal insights into harmful and problematic online and offline behaviour, respond nimbly to emerging technological trends in offending behaviour, and use these insights to inform and dramatically improve the evidence base to support prevention and investigation efforts. The global data research programme will complement existing and ongoing research within the institute including that with a focus on qualitative and lived experience methodologies.

Candidate Requirements:

We are seeking to appoint to a Chair in Public Protection to lead this exciting new programme of research. Candidates will have an outstanding research record in a relevant field such as criminology, policing, or psychology. We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate exceptional vision and inspirational leadership, alongside a track record of world-class research and innovation and outstanding quantitative research expertise. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future research agenda in the public protection space, working with international partners to deliver impactful research and innovation.

With a PhD or Professional Doctorate, you must have experience of successfully mentoring and developing early career colleagues and supervising PhD students. You will have a track record of successful grant and bid applications and possess exceptional team and project leadership. You’ll have excellent presentations skills across a range of audiences and mediums and be an active listener.
