Job Title: Night Support Assistant

Location: Beckenham, London

Salary: £13.34 per hour

Job Type: Part time 3 x roles varying in hours: 12 hours per week / 24 hours per week / 36 hours per week.

Morden College is a Charity dedicated to supporting older people. Today the Charity’s core purpose is to provide older people who are in need with a home for life, to support them as they grow older, and to provide housing, care, and support, including residential nursing care, if the need arises. The Charity’s Community Services are provided in the Almshouse accommodation on site at Blackheath and at Ralph Perring Court in Beckenham, through the vibrant communal space in the John Morden Centre and the case management approach that proactively identifies, assesses, and supports the most vulnerable in our community.

Job Summary/Purpose:

To provide overnight support to residents at Ralph Perring Court. Dealing effectively with emergencies, as a first responder. Contacting emergency services and next of kin when needed. Reporting maintenance issues in accordance with out of hours reporting procedures. To provide a cleaning, laundry, and ironing service in accordance with the Cleaning Schedules provided. To support with events and activities out of hours, ensuring the premises are clean and tidy after use. Provide general concierge duties to ensure that residents receive a high standard of reception service.

Key Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • To undertake concierge duties that ensure a high standard of reception service is provided
  • To provide an emergency first response to residents out of hours. Administering first aid or contacting emergency services and next of kin when required
  • To sit with residents when they are confused or upset, provide companionship and befriending when needed
  • To ensure that all tasks are carried out in respects of the residents’ privacy, choice, and dignity, and to promote a kind, friendly and caring environment
  • To support residents and staff with functions, setting up and clearing away after use, ensuring the premises are clean and tidy
  • To undertake general cleaning duties in accordance with the agreed cleaning schedule, including but not limited to communal area cleaning, wheelchairs, and equipment
  • To maintain all bin stores and cleaning cupboards in a clean, tidy, and organised fashion
  • To undertake laundry and ironing as directed
  • To comply with the system for logging and reporting faults/maintenance issues
  • To report defects or property damage
  • To maintain resident confidentiality and compliance with the GDPR policy
  • To maintain an open and honest relationship with colleagues across Morden College and to communicate effectively
  • To understand and act on responsibilities regarding whistleblowing
  • To attend and participate in staff meetings when required
  • Comply with safeguarding and other internal procedures for reporting incidents, always ensuring compliance with date protection regulations
  • Willing to work as a Lone Worker

The Candidate:

  • Satisfactory DBS check
  • A qualified First Aider or willing to complete the qualification
  • Availability to work unsocial hours i.e., early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays to ensure the service is covered 365 days a year
  • Experience of communicating with a variety of audiences
  • Authentically warm, genuine, trustworthy, honest, reliable, consistent, and caring in all their actions
  • A well-developed sense of their own behaviours and how they impact on others
