Job Title: Room Leader / Deputy Room Leader

Location: London

Salary: £11 and £14 per hour DOE

Job Type: Full-Time (Preferably 5 days a week but it could be 4 longer days)

Qualification: Minimum of NVQ3 or equivalent in Childcare and Education.

Job summary:

To support and work with a dedicated team to care for children aged between 6 months – 5 years. To ensure the smooth running of the room in which based and with all Room Leaders the smooth running of the whole nursery

Role and Responsibilities:

As well as being Room Leader, you are first and foremost still an Early Years Educator, so please always refer to the job description for this role.

  • To co-ordinate and lead weekly Room Meetings, ensuring that they are productive, informative inclusive and recorded. Ensure necessary information from these meetings is brought to the relevant manager in a professional and timely manner to support the staff as needed.
  • Ensure that all duties are completed and are fairly shared amongst the team.
  • Ensure that staff take their breaks at appropriate times to meet the needs of the children, as well as the smooth running of the room.
  • Ensure organisation of staff to have non-contact time to carry out their responsibilities and where not possible, relay to the relevant manager so that they can support you in providing this time at a later date.
  • Reminding staff of policies and procedures at all times, whether through room meetings, one to one meetings, or on the spot reminders if necessary.

Safeguarding:

  • Promote the Safeguarding of children, both physical and emotional
  • Work with your team to create an environment that is safe for children
  • Ensure the organisation and layout of the room as well as staff deployment are running to ensure children are safe at all times.
  • Create an environment that allows for staff to feel they can approach the relevant people at any time with any concern, no matter how small.

Health & Safety:

  • Ensuring that the daily risk assessments are being carried out and the room and equipment are safe and suitable for the children. Also, reminding staff of their role and responsibility in keeping the children safe throughout the day and to be continuously alert to potential hazards and knowing how to remove them.
  • Organisation of staff to ensure that staff always deployed in areas so that children can explore their environment safely.
  • Ensuring ratios are maintained throughout the day inclusive of outings, staff breaks, staff non-contact time etc. and liaise with management and other Rom Leaders for additional support if needed
  • Ensure weekly cleaning rotas are reviewed as needed and that they are being completed every week.
  • Supporting both the staff and the children in getting involved in the day to day importance of Health and Safety.

Management:

  • Role modelling to all staff, and being an example of outstanding approach to work and professionalism.
  • Occasionally share the responsibility of opening up the nursery and locking up the nursery
  • Liaise with outside agencies as required by management, e.g. agencies, Ofsted, EYIT,
  • Ensure that all duties are undertaken with due regard and compliance with the Data Protection Act and other legislation.
  • Support the management in their role and the running of the nursery to maintain and exceed the standards set by Ofsted
  • Support management with staff meetings ensuring relevant information and updates are included on the agenda
  • Supporting the management in ensuring that record keeping is maintained e.g. accident forms, medication forms, dietary requirements, daily charts etc.
  • Liaising with management when room is over staffed, thinking about other rooms and the nursery holistically
