Job Title: Health Complaints Advocate / Independent Living Adviser

Location: Remote, with meetings at the SILC Office, Astolat, Coniers Way, Guildford, GU4 7HL and other locations as required.

Salary: £21,224 per annum

Job Type: Permanent / Full-time (28 hours per week)

Surrey Independent Living Charity is a Disabled Person’s organisation that provides advocacy, information, advice and support throughout the county of Surrey.

We provide a range of services including Independent Health Complaints Advocacy and support to people who are arranging and managing their own health and social care support. As part of our ongoing development, we seek to recruit a Health Complaints Advocate / Independent Living Adviser to join our established team.

The role:

  • Provide Independent Health Complaints Advocacy in line with current legislation and guidelines.
  • Assist Self Funders, Direct Payment recipients and NHS Personal Budget holders to set up and successfully operate their Self-Managed Care arrangements.
  • Facilitate Self Advocacy & Peer Support.
  • Support the recruitment and employment of Personal Assistants including the administration of SILC’s Support Finder service.
  • Provide independent living support to enable individuals to live independently in their own homes.
  • To support engagement and promotional events relevant to SILC services.
  • Work as part of the team at SILC in order to ensure the delivery of services to the highest possible standard including providing admin, finance and reception cover as required.

The Candidate:

Experience of Health Complaints Advocacy would be useful but not essential. However, applicants will need to demonstrate that they have some experience of advocacy and/or providing general advocacy or advice in a community setting.

Applicants will also need to demonstrate a good understanding of the Social Model of Disability and the policies which underpin Independent Living, Direct Payments, and Personal Health Budgets They will also require an understanding of the issues facing disabled people and have a commitment to the philosophy of Independent Living.

Note: The job involves travelling throughout Surrey so access to own transport is essential.
