Job Title: Education Psychologist

Location: Lingfield, Surrey

Salary: £42,811 – £52,440 per year (Soulbury Pay Scale A)

Job type: Permanent, Term Time Only (37.5 hours per week)

Young Epilepsy is the leading national charity, which exists to improve the lives of children and young people with epilepsy and associated conditions. With over 100 years of experience, our unique Headquarters offers world class services which include the provision of Residential Services, Education and Health Care to children and young people in the UK and nationally.

The Role:

To provide a professional psychology service to students and staff and where appropriate to parents at Young Epilepsy. The post holder will be conversant with Systemic and Consultative models of working as well as have a background in an educational environment.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Carry out assessment of learning and emotional needs by one to one work as well as observing and consulting with multi-agency teams to advise on the best approaches and provisions to support learning and development.
  • Developing and supporting therapeutic and behaviour support programmes including specific positive behaviour plans for individual students with input from staff teams where appropriate.
  • Developing and applying effective interventions to promote psychological wellbeing, social, emotional and behavioural development, and to raise educational standards.
  • Give professional supervision and support to care, teaching and other staff involved in implementing programmes devised collaboratively for students.
  • Plan, organise and deliver appropriate individual/group therapy input including counselling for students.
  • Attend multi-disciplinary meetings and annual reviews to discuss how best to meet the social, emotional, behavioural and learning needs of the children and young people at Young Epilepsy.
  • Review students for acceptance at the Young Epilepsy College.
  • Liaise with all the specialists and professionals concerned, both internal and external, on specific cases and programmes.
  • Formulating interventions that focus on applying knowledge, skills and expertise to support Young Epilepsy community.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Professional Doctorate and/or MSc in Educational Psychology recognised by BPS and accredited through a recognised course.
  • Health care professional council registration.
  • Knowledge of learning environments and cognitive assessments including Dynamic assessment methodologies.
  • Experience of writing assessment reports for local authorities.
  • Experience of working within a consultative framework.
  • Experience in school/pupil psychological interventions.
  • Ability to communicate well through report writing and providing consultation feedback to stakeholders.
  • Good knowledge of systemic models of working and its implications for their practice.
  • Have a good understanding of child and adolescent development and be able to communicate this knowledge to colleagues in the residential and education.
  • The person should be a good team player. They should be flexible and adaptable to the changing environment.
  • Maintain standard of professional practice.
  • Willing to take on extra responsibilities if required.
  • Have a positive attitude to working with children and young people as well as be a resource to their colleagues.
  • Experience working with children and young people with disabilities.
  • Experience providing therapeutic support to young people experiencing difficulties.
