This is a new opportunity for a handy person who would like to work as part of a team that takes pride in presenting a busy programme of events in a well-cared-for building – the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds city centre – where we offer a year-round programme of exhibitions, conferences, talks and other activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the principle key-holder to ensure that the Institute is unlocked/unalarmed and locked/alarmed at the start and end of each weekday, Monday to Friday.
  • Set up and follow a weekly maintenance schedule for the building, including weekly testing of emergency equipment (fire alarm, fixed emergency radios etc.).
  • Carry out first line repairs and maintenance, e.g. light building work, filling/making good holes in plasterwork, decorating, basic carpentry, basic plumbing and/or electrical work (depending on experience and training certificates achieved).
  • Assist with the preparation of the galleries for the installation of exhibitions.

  • Order and/or collect maintenance and kitchen supplies, including water cooler refills.
  • Carry out PAT testing of all portable electrical equipment (upon successful completion of training).
  • Liaise with the Programme Coordinator regarding bookings for the flat, including arranging a cleaning schedule between guests and dealing with first line repairs.

  • Ensure that all areas within the confines of the site are free from litter and that all drains and gullies are free-flowing and clean.
  • Arrange the safe disposal of all electrical and non-hazardous waste and arrange special refuse and recycling collections.
  • Be aware of security at all times while at work, providing security support for Front of House colleagues as called upon, and arranging contract security holiday cover.
  • Support the Operations Manager and other colleagues in implementing the Institute’s emergency procedures and disaster plan as required.
  • Any other duties that may reasonably be required.

The Candidate:

Our ideal candidate will have good DIY skills, ideally with experience in caretaking, buildings maintenance and/or security, and will take pride in doing a job well. We are keen to appoint someone with basic knowledge of one or more trades, however a willingness to undertake training, e.g. in PAT testing, fire safety and First Aid is more important. Good time-keeping and reliability are essential qualities for this role.
