Job Title: Classroom Teacher

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

Working closely under the reasonable direction of the Head Teacher to undertake the professional duties as circumstances require including:

  • Planning and preparing for the education day, lessons, child-initiated learning, group times and individual interventions.
  • Lead and manage a Teaching Team to effectively delate tasks and responsibilities whilst providing support supervision and appraisals.
  • Carrying out the School policy on assessing, recording and reporting.
  • Maintaining a safe learning environment for the pupils and safeguarding their health and safety both on and off the School premises.
  • Actively working within the treatment team of each child in your class, to ensure that their needs are being holistically met.
  • Participating in meetings, including reviews, curriculum development, teaching team, consultation, treatment team, supervision and education team meetings.
  • Working closely with other professional members of staff to create an integrated programme for all pupils.
  • Working as a member of an ‘on call team’ (approx. one weekend per term).
  • Creating, maintaining and implementing a development plan which results in improvements in teaching and learning for all children placed at the school.
  • Participating in arrangements for further training and professional development as a teacher, including performance management/appraisal.
  • Participating in Mulberry Bush training programmes, including undertaking the Mulberry Bush Foundation Degree in Therapeutic work with Children and Young People (teachers have the option of whether or not they wish to complete the assessed parts of this course).

Essential & Desirable Skills:

  • Qualified teacher status (QTS).
  • At least 3 years successful teaching experience in school-based environment.
  • Teaching experience with special educational needs.
  • Relates to and motivates children with social, emotional and behaviour difficulties.
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum requirements (KS1 & KS2).
  • An effective communicator with colleagues and other professionals.
  • Confident in using a range of ICT to support learning.
  • Evidence of participation in professional development or further study (Desirable).
  • Working with a range of professionals i.e. Educational Psychologist, Social Worker (Desirable).
