Job Title: Software Developer

Location: Guildford, Surrey (Hybrid)

Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 per annum

Job Type: Full time, Permanent

Responsible to: Head of Product Design and Development/Head of Technical Design and Integration

Portico Consulting is an independent management consultancy to not for profit, public sector, education, and health and social care organisations.

Our consultancy practice undertakes a range of business and IT consultancy assignments supporting organisational development, service improvement, efficiency improvements, IT strategy, and supporting national initiatives and regulation.

About the role:

The main purpose of the role is to support the design, and to develop and test software, which is fit-for-purpose for Portico’s clients.

The nature of this post is one of continual development and the duties and responsibilities outlined below, which may change from time to time to reflect the changing needs of Portico and people’s changes in circumstances. The post holders will be expected to comply with Portico’s quality standards at all times.

Main Duties and responsibilities:

  • To complete detailed design of software, and to develop and test software to meet the requirements of Portico’s clients.
  • To develop corresponding end-user documentation, as required.
  • To review small-scale requests from clients for functional changes, data changes, report-changes, or other changes, provide an overall design approach, and to estimate their resource requirements, and to support the design of larger-scale developments.
  • To apply contemporary software-development expertise, and business analysis skills, in line with Portico’s standards and methods.
  • To support the continuous improvement of Portico’s standards and methods when required.
  • To provide, from time to time, technical and professional support for developers.
  • To deliver training to clients from time to time, either in the office or on client sites.
  • To liaise with clients on the phone and over email and in person, to ensure that design decisions meet their requirements, as appropriate.

About you:

  • A-Levels (or equivalent) in STEM subjects
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent (STEM)
  • At least two years’ software development experience
  • An understanding of Business Analysis
  • A good understanding of contemporary software design and development methodologies and best practice
  • Knowledge of data-modelling and SQL
  • One or more modern programming language
  • A good knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3
  • Use of diagramming and other techniques to formally read requirements and designs
  • Ability to compose medium to complex SQL queries
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and reliability

Location:

The normal place of work for this role is at Portico Consulting Ltd’s offices in Guildford, Surrey. The holder may from time to time be required to travel to client sites.

We operate a hybrid working scheme of at least 3 days in the office and 2 working from home.
