Could you be the new editor of Resurgence & Ecologist magazine?
The Resurgence Trust is seeking a talented an experienced editor to work on all aspects of the production of our bimonthly membership magazine, which has been hailed as the flagship publication of the environment movement. The successful candidate will be committed to ecological, spiritual and social values.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Primary responsibilities
- Commission and develop strong content for Resurgence & Ecologist to produce a high-quality magazine six times a year that is reflective of the ethos of The Resurgence Trust.
- Manage the editorial team and hold regular forward planning, editorial, picture and design meetings. Edit articles to the required length and house style, to meet the publication standards.
- Write headlines, standfirsts, content pages, etc. Meet with writers and artists to discuss features.
- Manage and support freelance contributors/writers. Approve content, appearance, artwork and layout of content within the magazine.
- Write features, reviews and other content when necessary. (Note: this is not a writing role.)
- Proofread and sign off the final version of the magazine.
- Manage the editorial budget.
- Comply with media law and industry regulations.
- Carry out general administration associated with the role.
- Attend staff meetings and Programme Team lead meetings.
Secondary responsibilities
- Represent Resurgence & Ecologist and The Resurgence Trust.
- Participate in the wider work of the Trust through ongoing collaboration.
- Support other programmes within the Trust.
- Identify further opportunities for reader engagement and partnerships with communities, campaign groups, research centres, NGOs and policymakers.
- Working as a key member of the editorial team, the new editor will help to develop strong content, to communicate the ethos of the Trust. They will also be able to demonstrate good editorial leadership.
Requirements Essential requirements
- Proven experience of managing and editing a print title (minimum 3 years).
- Educated to degree level or equivalent.
- Enthusiastic and energetic, and passionate about working in the charity sector.
- Commitment to the values, principles and holistic philosophy of The Resurgence Trust, with demonstrable evidence.
- Excellent writing, editing and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
- Computer literate and highly proficient in using Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Experience of and competence in performing under pressure and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to nurture long-term relationships with key publication influencers.
- Demonstrable understanding of media law and industry regulations.
Desirable qualities and experience
- Sound understanding of the current challenges in the environmental landscape. Based in South West England. Full, clean driving licence and car.
