The BDA is a Special Register Body charged with promoting the interests of members, advancing the science, arts and ethics of dentistry and improving the nation’s oral health. This activity requires the BDA to act as a trade union, a professional association and a charity.
About the role:
The Audit Committee of the Association is now looking to recruit an independent member to sit alongside five other Directors and provide valuable outside perspective into the deliberations of the Committee which is tasked with;
- Auditing of the financial statements, procedures and transactions as set out in the appropriate Statement of Auditing Standards and any other areas of the Association’s financial affairs
- Overseeing the discharge of the Association’s responsibilities relating to financial statements, governance, risk management, internal control systems, external audit and conflicts of interest
- Considering with the Association’s external auditors the nature and scope of the audit and the objectivity and effectiveness of it
- Reviewing the external auditor’s post-audit letter and the management response
- Reviewing the annual financial statements and accompanying reports
- Monitoring the effectiveness of the Association’s governance, risk management and internal control systems
- Reviewing reports of internal processes and systems
The Audit Committee holds three remote meetings per year, typically for approximately three hours and the total time commitment expected is 15 hours plus associated reading and preparation.

Applications are sought from individuals with experience and understanding at Board or senior management level of corporate governance who believe that they can contribute a new perspective to our Audit Committee.
