Job Title: HR Officer
Based: Hulme, Manchester
Salary: £27,569 – £29,452 per annum

Role Purpose:
To assist the HR Manager in providing an efficient and effective Human Resources function within the college including the development, implementation and monitoring of all HR processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- To implement and maintain safer recruitment procedures in respect of the recruitment of staff and volunteers in line with college policies & Keeping Children Safe in Education.
- To assistant managers in compiling job descriptions and person specifications.
- To advertise positions on the relevant websites/job boards in a timely manner.
- To arrange and administer all aspects of the college’s recruitment and selection process.
- To complete all new starter processes including issuing offer letters, contracts of employment and other new starter documentation, informing the relevant departments, creating staff records and personnel files ensuring all relevant paperwork is completed, and distributing a new starter pack to each new member of staff.
- To ensure the timely completion of appropriate employment and vetting checks, including DBS certificates, for all new staff.
- To ensure appropriate vetting checks are completed for visitors, volunteers and contractors when required, ensuring contractors’ records are compliant with the required vetting checks.
- To assist the HR Manager on all employee relation issues including staff disciplinary, capability, grievance, sickness absence management, redundancy, etc.
- To process contracts variations/amendments in a timely manner, including promotions, renewal of fixed term contracts, etc.
- To maintain and monitor the self-service HR information system with regard to annual leave, approved absences and sickness absences, following up on the return of relevant documentation where appropriate.
- To produce attendance monitoring reports notifying the HR Manager of individuals who have met trigger points in accordance with the Attendance Management policy.
- To provide support with the Performance Review process as required, ensuring that all annual appraisals are completed in the HR information system and analysis carried out as appropriate.
The Candidate:
Essential
- Previous experience in an HR generalist role
- An understanding the confidential nature of HR work, using discretion and high professional standards
- Excellent attention to detail and ensuring the accuracy of data
- Excellent standards of literacy and numeracy
- Ability to work with other staff as a team
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills with the ability to prioritise and multitask
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, and experience of communicating with staff at all levels within an organisation
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Evidence of commitment to Continuous Professional Development
- IT literate
- Qualified to CIPD Level 3 or above, or part qualified and in progress
- Educated to degree level or equivalent, or substantial relevant experience that demonstrates a high order of literacy, numeracy and analytical skills.
- Good knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practice
- Positive and enthusiastic
- A dedication to continuous improvement both in working practices and personal development
- Able to motivate and develop others
- A willingness to show flexibility in working arrangements in terms of duties and working patterns to meet emergencies and changing circumstances

Desirable
- Previous experience / understanding of an educational environment
- Previous experience of working with Cintra IQ or other similar HR Information System
- Previous experience of handling employee relations issues Desirable
- A clear understanding of developments in post-16 education
