Job Title: Enterprise Architect
Location: Chelmsford (with hybrid home working)
Salary: £67,538 to £61,818 plus an attraction and retention premia for an exceptional candidate
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time (37 hours per week)
Job Purpose:
To lead the governance of data and solution architecture for the university. To take responsibility for the interpretation of business requirements into technical requirements.
As a key member of our Senior management Team (SMT), you will have a direct influence on the success of IT Services (ITS), representing us at a senior level within the department, across the University and externally.
You will provide senior leadership and guidance to your staff as well as colleagues working with and alongside you, drawing upon your expertise and specialisms outlined in the person specification.
Responsibilities:
- Working closely with technical specialists and other senior managers, develop and maintain enterprise, technical and architectural standards and the governance of data solutions architecture for the university.
- Provide innovative architectural solutions to underpin strategic transformation and change.
- Provide architectural leadership on solution design prior to solution development and/or procurement, involving specialists from across IT Services as required
- Lead on the continuous improvement and development of Enterprise Architecture maturity of IT Services to drive maximum benefit, efficiency and effectiveness in the technology service provision to the university.
- Responsible for the standards of a professional business analysis service to capture business requirements and map business processes where data is being handled.
- Develop effective relationships with 3rd party technology/solution providers and partners to maximise technical capability of existing solutions and technology and explore additional benefits to the university.
- Build a strong and effective customer focussed team and provide leadership that models the university’s values, motivates staff, promotes performance improvement and enables IT Services to deliver excellence.
- Responsible for appropriate workload distribution across all team members including self.
- Form alliances and relationships with key stakeholders/ contacts across the university to enable effective delivery of services, raising the profile of IT Services and ensuring clear, effective and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development and review of relevant university-wide policies, standards and governance processes and performance measures to ensure optimal efficiency, effectiveness and value of IT services.
- Stay informed of all relevant industry and technological developments in the marketplace and provide advice to the ITS Senior Management on how to take advantage of these to support the development of initiatives that deliver business objectives.
- Contribute to the leadership of the IT Services Directorate as a member of the wider Management Team and participate in other senior committees.
- Represent the university on external and internal groups as appropriate.
- Act as Duty Senior IT manager to co-ordinate out-of-hours incidents in agreed rotas.
- Carry out such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required, commensurate with your grade.
About you:
Essential
- Higher degree plus significant demonstrable professional experience relevant to the role OR relevant professional qualification at post graduate level (chartered where appropriate) and significant demonstrable professional experience relevant to the role
- Demonstrable experience of carrying out a solution architectural design role in large/complex organisations
- Technical leadership experience gained by managing a solution development or infrastructure management service/function
- Experience of contributing to the development of digital/ technology strategy
- Experience in creating and implementing visions and goals
- Experience of interpreting business requirements into technical requirements
- Excellent leadership skills

- ITIL Certification
- TOGAF certification
- Experience of working with/implementing enterprise architecture methodologies and frameworks
- Experience of designing/building data integration and single-sign-on solutions
- Experience of structured project management
- Knowledge of cloud technology (i.e. Microsoft Azure)
- Knowledge of the (HE) solution requirements and associated application market
- Understanding of trends and issues affecting the HE sector
