Mabbett is an independent environmental, engineering and safety consultancy established in 1996 in Glasgow, Scotland. Since then the firm has grown to employ over 55 motivated engineers, scientists and supporting professionals across the U.K. We have regional offices in Belfast, Cardiff, Dublin, Dundee, Edinburgh, Inverness, Leicester and Liverpool. Our team includes engineers, environmental, QEHS, process safety and energy professionals. We are seeking to recruit a Senior or Principal Industrial Environmental Consultant to work within the Environment Group.
You will primarily work from home (in the UK) in the short term, unless this is unavailable to you. You will be provided with all IT equipment and software/services require to facilitate your efficient home working. Long term arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate – we are a flexible employer and are willing to consider any arrangement that is desirable to you.
The role:
The Senior Industrial Environmental Consultant is targeted at assisting clients with environmental legislation compliance (including special waste/chemical compliance e.g. REACH, CLP, transboundary shipments, waste classification, EPR), and the development and delivery of the management systems and training to manage and improve environmental impacts (e.g. ISO 14001, net zero strategy compliance, ISO 50001, ISO 9001).
The successful candidate will work in a client-facing role with lead responsibilities for excellent project delivery, valued outcomes and great customer service. Our clients are wide and varied, bringing diversity and interest to the project portfolio mix. You will be working with consultants, compliance auditors, circular economy professionals, chemical/process engineers and mechanical engineers across Mabbett, but based within the Environment Group.
Clients include food and drink companies, pharmaceuticals, construction, manufacturing, engineering, defence, and commercial sectors. We work in the UK and overseas. We are looking for a candidate to lead and grow our industrial environmental consulting compliance and improvement service delivery.
The Candidate
Experience:
The ideal candidate will have experience with regards to two or more of the following areas/disciplines, preferably with industrial and consultancy experience including both project scoping/budgeting and delivery:
- Industrial environmental management
- Waste and chemical management
- Environmental legal compliance auditing
- ISO 14001, ISO 50001, ISO 9001 – (e.g. development, delivery, auditing, training)
- KPI/ EnPI development and support
- GRI consulting and dashboard/target/plan development
- Net Zero Strategy development and delivery
- Workshop design, facilitation and delivery
- International good practice projects
Personal Attributes/Skills:
- Successful track record in industrial environmental management.
- Up to date knowledge of environmental legislation and its direct application to industrial sites.
- Solutions-oriented; ability to motivate others to implement solutions and to drive sales and project results.
- Organised, logical and structured; attention to detail.
- Communication and training/facilitation skills.
- Brings numeracy, data analysis/interpretation, business acumen.
- Creative thinking and ability to identify and drive new business opportunities and projects in particular around compliance and sustainability for industry, which may include low-carbon /net zero solutions, innovation and digital transformation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Professional software packages, including Excel.
- Language skills (English minimum).

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess an Honours or Masters Degree in Chemistry/Science, Industrial Environmental Management, Engineering, Sustainability, Waste, Energy, Quality Management, Manufacturing Excellence, or similar, and have a have a full U.K. driving licence with clean driver record. Professional chartership(s) would be viewed favourably.
The position may require travel (including occasional overnight stays) throughout Scotland, the U.K. and overseas depending on project requirements. Company pool cars are available for business travel – a valid driving licence is required, valid passport and photo ID is required for air travel. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.K.
