Garrowby Estate is a traditional agricultural estate extending to 13,250 acres, located 13 miles east of York.

We require a cheerful, motivated and experienced person to assist the Head Groundskeeper to look after the Hall, garden and grounds with the support of our Estate teams. The role is varied and involves grounds maintenance (including some parkland and ponds), gardening, property/vehicle maintenance, driving duties and being ‘on call’ out-of-hours (1 in 3 rota). Out-of-hours duties include fire laying, bins removal, ad hoc driving, premises security and being on call to respond to burglar alarms, fire alarms or other emergencies (e.g. plumbing leaks).
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- During a day’s work you may need to fix a dripping tap, mow the lawn, clean the swimming pool, change the air filter on a motorcycle, move furniture, collect guests from the station and check on plants in the greenhouse…
- You must be happy to work alone and to move off jobs before they are finished if something more urgent needs doing.
- You should be experienced in the use of pesticides, chainsaws, ride-on mowers and hedge-trimmers. Relevant certificates/qualifications are advantageous but not essential. A full UK Driving Licence is required and you must be competent pulling a trailer.
The Candidate:
- At least 3 years’ experience in grounds maintenance
- Basic DIY (e.g. joinery and plumbing repairs)
- Basic vehicle/machinery maintenance
- Gardening and outdoor tidying skills
