Job Title: Technical Services Site Supervisor

The KUSCO technical services team is responsible for the responsive and planned maintenance of Kingston University’s plant, buildings, structures and contents. This job is supervising a team consisting of plumbers/fitters, electricians, general support assistants. Each carries out work relevant to his or her skill base but is also required to take on other general tasks within their capability, recognizing that there is overlap between skills.
The role of the Technical Services Supervisor involves operating as part of the KUSCO campus services teams and so requires a positive flexible customer focused attitude towards work. The role will also promote the improvements to working practices and adopt a quality approach to all aspects of work and encourage others to achieve and maintain high standards.
The Technical Services team report through to the Technical Service Site Supervisor and the Campus Services Manager, who manages the overall performance of the service teams and deals with issues which, arise contractually.
This is above all a team effort, with the individuals expected to manage their own work and make decision’s independently whilst working as part of KUSCO campus service teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise all members of the team and delegate work load as required
- Ensure that all procedures are monitored and conform to best working practice
- Ensure that all works are completed to the highest standards of professionalism
- Ensure that all equipment and supplies are maintained to the required level and standard
- Delegate responsibility of departmental tasks during absences ensuring a smooth operation at all times.
- Carry out Risk Assessments and ensure safe systems of work to ensure KUSCO adheres to Health & Safety best practice.
- Train, develop staff and motivate staff
- Ensure that all work orders are dealt with a timely fashion.
- Ensure that all purchase orders are processed through Unified. Technology and Procedures are in place and may change from time to time to reflect the needs of the business
- Supply technical expertise and cover during Campus Service Manager’s absence
- Ensure quality is maintained in all aspects of workmanship
- Assist in the recruitment process and attend interviews for new staff. Follow up on and assist with inductions and ongoing development.
- Carry out performance management duties for technical staff including probationary reviews, appraise and document staff periodical appraisals under their supervision
- Raise and allocate Planned Preventative Maintenance tasks for plant, equipment and other assets under the control of, and for which, KUSCO is responsible for
- Approve and manage staff’s annual and other authorized leave requests. Ensure that adequate staff resources are available at all times to deliver the services required to achieve or exceed the Service Level Agreements that are current between Kingston University and KUSCO
- To ensure the correct uniform and P.P.E. are worn by all staff at all times whilst on duty
- To be a member of the Responsive Maintenance Call Out team (at the discretion of the Facilities Manager)
- Communicate and liaise with the appropriate KUSCO and KU employees.
- Deputize for the Campus Services Manager in his/her absence and to support as required with other duties within the competences of the job holder that may be reasonably required.
- Achieve SLA/KPI obligations
- Maximize the use of the company’s IT Services
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety at all times
- Achieve KPI targets.
- Assist in the provision of information statistics
- Attend client meetings as and when required
- Build strong working relationships with the University’s Deans and faculty’s
The Candidate:
Essential:
- Have a working knowledge of all KU sites
- Self-motivation and initiative and willingness to assume responsibility for work for yourself and others

- Innovative and open to change

- Site rotation at short notice
- Holder of a current and valid manual driving license
Desirable:
- Qualified to City & Guilds in a recognized trade, HNC or ONC
- IOSH managing safely
- Proven team leadership and staff motivation
- High level of communication skills at both team and client levels
- Ability to priorities your own workload and that of the team
- Flexible to change, working hours and adapt working practices
- Sound knowledge of Health and Safety practices of safe working procedures
- Leadership experience
- Experience of developing a team
