The Role:
This non-teaching role is intended to provide further specialist support to the school’s pastoral managers and further enhance the quality and resilience of our pastoral care. The Pupil Manager will report to the Principal of the Senior Division, but will work across the school’s three Divisions as required.
The successful candidate will share an office with another Pupil Manager. They will work together as a team, dividing up the workload between them. The day-to-day role involves a mix of regular meetings with students, and reactive intervention when incidents occur. It is a busy role and one that is highly rewarding with considerable scope for development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Pupil Management:
- Support pupils in their learning and encourage positive attitudes and behaviour
- Monitor individual pupils’ behaviour, punctuality and attendance, liaising with Form Tutors, Vice-Principals and Heads of Year as necessary
- Evidence effective pupil intervention whilst overseeing and documenting their development
- Contribute to the support, guidance and counselling of pupils
- Advise and support teachers in relation to the behaviour and learning of individuals and groups of pupils
- Provide information/reports for outside agencies (e.g. CAMHS, Children’s Services, etc.)
- Encourage and develop parental relationships with the school, and outside agencies as appropriate;
- Monitor pupils’ online behaviour in school
- Be on call and available to pupils and parents throughout the school day
Duties:
- Attending and chairing meetings regarding the welfare, behaviour and learning of pupils
- Liaising with the School Nurses and the Learning Support Department regarding pupil concerns
- Contributing to and leading assemblies and initiatives to improve pupils’ learning, attitudes and behaviour
- Monitoring pupils identified as being in need of additional support or who are subject to behaviour or learning contracts
A positive and flexible mind-set as well as a willingness to help shape the nature of the position are essential. Candidates should demonstrate flexibility and drive as well as the skills necessary to manage a complex workload, involving pupils, parents and staff.

Familiarity with Safeguarding practices, including working with support agencies will be an added recommendation. As appropriate, Level 3 Child Protection qualifications, a full First Aid at Work certificate and counselling training will be required once the chosen candidate has been appointed.
Conditions:
The post is principally in term-time, but a degree of flexibility is essential, including some work (up to 15 days) during the school holidays, which are longer than those in maintained sector schools. Working hours are 8.30 am to 4.30 pm with a half-hour unpaid lunch break. Some flexibility will be required in these hours to fit in with the needs of the pupils.
