Job Title: Production Controller

Location: Chelmsford

Salary: £28k – £34k depending on experience

Job type: Full Time – Permanent.

Currock Engineering is an established and growing precision engineering company based in Chelmsford. We supply to several world class companies who have come to rely on us over the years and deal with their precision engineering requirements. We work in the Aerospace, Defence and Energy industries. Our equipment includes CNC Mills 3,4 & 5 axis, CNC Lathes, Manual Lathes, Mills and Grinding Machines. The company has invested in five new CNC machines with Pallet handlers over the last twelve months. Invest has continued into our inspection department.

The Role/Candidate:

We will continue to grow through 2021 and currently employ over 80 employees. In order to support the growth, we require a Production Controller. You will have experience working in a precision engineering environment and be well grounded in manufacturing and production processes. The technical ability of the individual is as important as is the right personality and drive to fit, who shares our ambition to grow and develop our business, our people and provide outstanding service to our clients.

The position will report to the Manager.

Main Responsibilities;

Reporting to the Key Account Managers (KAM) you will be responsible for overseeing the manufacturing processes of precision manufactured parts, looking at ways to refine the planning, analysing data and providing the KAM with support to enable regular customer updates on the progress to their order book.

You will be an integral part of the business ensuring product is delivered to customers on time and within budget.

Main duties;

  • Progress and move jobs to the next operation, to ensure that all production work is completed in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Liaise with internal KAM and progress suppliers occasionally communicate with customers
  • Ensure all parts and stock for the production department are ordered and delivered on time
  • Oversee the sub-con purchase orders and progress orders with suppliers to ensure the supplier is meeting their delivery targets.
  • Organise and monitor key products and track these through their operations using excel
  • Raise purchase orders for processing, paint, and adhesives
  • Manage MRP exception messages
  • Raise Job packs for the shop floor
  • Manage related queries from the shop floor and inspection
  • Manage delivery paperwork
  • Key involvement in larger projects as required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project would be an advantage, not essential
  • Working closely with the Production Scheduler, Engineering department, Operations Manager and KAM
  • Management of and reporting through our ERP software Epicor

Ideal candidate;

  • A strong manufacturing/production background ideally supported by qualifications to C&G, HNC, HND or degree level in production, manufacturing or mechanical engineering. Minimum of 5 years working in a SME or big manufacturing company
  • A real passion for Continuous Improvement and implementing, simple, meaningful and effective KPIs with a focus on process capability and control.
  • Experience of managing sub-con supplier to meet our customer objectives
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal, written and able to document, plan and develop standard operating procedures for high precision processes.

This position would ideally suit someone who has worked within a similar industry/environment with excellent organisational skills and is familiar with working to tight deadlines.
