We are the voice of dentists and dental students in the UK. We bring dentists together, support our members through advice and education, and represent their interests. This is a challenging and dynamic period for dentistry and the BDA is recruiting a Head of NHS and Business advice who can help support dentists through this period.
The Role
The Head of NHS and Business advice will provide, develop and manage the delivery of a range of high quality NHS, business and practice management advice services to BDA members. The post can be full-time or part-time depending on the candidate and will be initially home-based during lockdown restrictions but will eventually be based in central London.
The Team:
The NHS and Business Advice team provides advice (mainly by telephone and email) to dentist members on a range of issues including the delivery of dental services in line with NHS and healthcare legislation; NHS contracting, commissioning and procurement; business matters and a wide range of other NHS and general practice issues pertinent to dentists practising and operating businesses within primary care dentistry.
Core Responsibilities:
The post-holder will be responsible for the delivery of one to one advice to members, as well as the supervision of and day-to-day management of the team together with the Head of Operations, providing expert support and advice to the team.
The post-holder will also be responsible for providing and managing the delivery of talks, workshops and training for dentists and practice staff; and maintaining up-to-date written and other advice resources for members.
About you:
- An individual with a strong background in law or with strong practical experience of working within a relevant NHS dental commissioning or business environment;
- Current working knowledge of the legal, business and financial framework in which small businesses operate and the ability to use that knowledge to solve problems;
- Robust experience in managing a team of people on a day to day basis as well as providing them with support and expert advice;
- Knowledge of contract law, public law and NHS primary care commissioning and contracting requirements; and
- Experience of and a willingness to undertake public speaking to large and small audiences.
