Job Title: Head of Programme: Smart Infrastructure and Systems

techUK’s Smart Infrastructure and Systems Programme is the champion for smart infrastructure deployment in the UK and for companies operating in that supply chain abroad. We focus on the deployment, adoption and diffusion of digital technologies in four key areas: Cities, Digital Twins, Energy & Utilities, and Transport.
The role
The role involves working with a broad array of our members and stakeholders – from working with the innovation community, regulators and government to plan for a digital energy system to helping engage and develop strategies for increasing the capacity of local authorities to make use of smart city technologies.
Ultimately, we are focused on help members by developing new markets, develop their networks, and reduce business risk and cost.
The role will require you to deliver against a range of financial and performance targets (including membership growth and retention, income management and the management and development of a team of talented professionals) and to manage a complex workload with competing demands.
Key Duties
- Oversee the development, growth and implementation of techUK’s Smart Infrastructure and Systems Programme to reflect the needs of existing and potential members
- Support the chief executive, policy team and relevant programme leads to engage effectively with senior policy makers
- Support relevant techUK working groups and maintain a high level of liaison with group members
- Represent techUK at key stakeholder events, forums and advisory groups
- Grow recognition of techUK’s Smart Infrastructure and Systems Programme through thought leadership, insights, social media and PR activities, working closely with techUK’s marketing and communication teams
- Ensure the delivery of key annual financial and performance targets for the programme
- Line management and any other duties that might from time to time be required
Person Specification:
Competence:
- A self-motivated individual who is comfortable leading several projects
- An effective and motivational manager
- A team player who is comfortable and able to work with relevant teams across techUK
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Has a can-do approach and comfortable working in a high pressure, fast paced environment with competing demands
- Effective communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to get to grips with complex technical information and to communicate this effectively to a range of audiences
- Is able to articulate, explain and sell the benefits of techUK to a range of audiences from government to potential new members
Essential Knowledge and Experience:
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of the energy, mobility and smart cities landscape, the capabilities of digital technologies and the positioning and role of techUK
- Strong knowledge of public affairs, ideally able to demonstrate a successful public policy outcome through the adoption of public affairs strategies
- Has an awareness of tech companies’ business models and drivers
- Has a proven track record and experience of managing complex relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Comfortable with and has experience of working with board level executives
Desired Knowledge and Experience
- Interest in digital transformation / technology / public policy
- Strong interest in the UK tech sector and our mission to make the UK good for tech, make tech good for the UK and make tech good for people and the planet
- Has a proven track record of managing events (dinners, breakfast briefings, seminars and so on) ensuring accuracy and attention to detail
