The BDA is the voice of dentists and dental students in the UK. We are the trade union, professional association and scientific society for dentists. Our work brings dentists together to represent their interests to Government and the NHS and to campaign for policy changes as well as providing support to our members through advice and education.
We are looking for a Policy Officer to join our Policy and Research Team. Our office is in Central London and this role will eventually be based there, but for now we are working remotely.
About the role:
The successful applicant will support the work of a number of the BDA’s policy-making committees and will assist in the development of policy in relation to general dental practitioners, NHS and private dentistry, and issues particularly affecting early career dentists. The role is four days or 28 hours per week.
We’re a team of policy and research professionals, who pride ourselves on our extensive collective knowledge of dentistry and the high-quality secretarial support we provide to our committees and elected officers.
About you:
You’ll have a desire to be involved in policy development and influencing policy change, and you will be interested in health policy.
You have a good undergraduate degree or demonstrable equivalent work experience. You’ll have a desire to learn about new issues and ideas and be able to grasp new concepts quickly.
You’ll be an excellent communicator, with the ability to express complex ideas and issues clearly and articulately in writing and speech. Your writing style will confidently adapt to different audiences and purposes, it will be accurate in content and grammar, and you will have a keen eye for detail.
You’ll be well organised, able to manage deadlines effectively and work accurately under pressure. You’ll be comfortable managing the workload coming from a number of different policy-making committees, ensuring that minutes and reports are produced in a timely fashion and implementing agreed actions. You’ll be able to anticipate upcoming work, plan your time appropriately, and ensure that arrangements are made for meetings in good time. You’ll need to work closely with committee’s elected officers, so you’ll have great interpersonal skills and the ability to build and manage professional relationships effectively.
