Job Title: Mechanical & Electrical Engineer (Electrical Bias)

The College is an academically selective independent boys’ school just 11 minutes by train from London Victoria.

Job Purpose:

Working as part of a team of 12 maintenance staff, the Mechanical & Electrical Engineer’s role is to carry out planned and reactive maintenance across a large and diverse portfolio of buildings.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Duties:

  • To carry out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)
  • To repair or replace wiring, equipment and fixtures using hand tools and power tools to include minor building work and making good
  • Daily plant room inspection, defects reports to Maintenance Manager
  • First line response to Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) reported faults
  • Daily monitoring of Building Management Software (BMS) system
  • Monthly emergency light testing as per planned preventative maintenance (PPM) regime
  • Air handling unit (AHU) filter and belt planned maintenance
  • Closed system inhibitor dosing as per PPM schedule
  • Topping up water softeners as per PPM schedule
  • Weekly Flush Tests as per PPM schedule
  • Outlet temperature tests as per PPM schedule
  • Minor installations e.g. pump replacement
  • Lamp and ballast changes as per helpdesk request
  • Minor electrical repairs as directed by the Maintenance Manager / Head of Maintenance
  • Responding to reactive helpdesk requests

Additional Duties:

  • To undertake such additional duties as might reasonably be requested by the Maintenance Manager or the Head of Maintenance
  • To be on call for evenings and weekend one week out of five, with overtime paid if callouts are required

Candidate Requirements:

Essential

  • One-year experience post apprenticeship preferred
  • Commercial Building Maintenance Experience
  • Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, E-mail

Desirable

  • Experience using Trend 963
  • Experience using CAFM systems
  • IPAF licence
  • PASMA Licence
  • A full UK Driving Licence
  • Gas Safe Certified
  • City & Guilds Test and Inspection
  • Plumbing qualifications

Working Hours: All year round. 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with 1 hour unpaid lunch break each day.

Probation Period: 6 months, with an interim review after 3 months at which time the position will be reviewed. In case of illness during the probation period, statutory sick pay only will be applicable.
