Salary: £23,000 – £28,000
Job Type: 37.5 Hours per week including occasional weekend and evening work.
Established in 2012, Outspoken Cycles has steadily grown year on year. Having recently taken on three new significant projects with local authorities and the University of Cambridge, we are expanding in the short term from 6 to 8 staff. This expansion of our mechanic support will then feed into our 3 year strategic plan for further measured growth.

The role:
We’re looking for a committed and highly organised person with excellent coordination and line management skills to manage and develop our range of maintenance services, from off-site fleet servicing through to Bike Maintenance Courses.
The post holder will be office-based and needs no experience of cycle maintenance but they should have prior experience coordinating or managing teams, and will bring a positive, can-do attitude to manage and motivate a dedicated crew of mechanics in a nurtured environment.
The role works closely with the General Manager and Shop Manager to ensure the smooth running and development of the business. The role will be supported by the lead mechanic and our Programme Coordinator to assist in running of the services.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Manage all day-to-day operational aspects of the repairs services and courses ensuring consistent high quality off site and on site.
- Manage, develop and coordinate a growing team of mechanics
- Work with the General Manager to develop our services and to target new opportunities for work
- Work with the General Manager to ensure efficiency and profitability of the bike maintenance services
The role can be broken up into 6 parts:
- Operations
- Utilising our team of mechanics, coordinate the delivery of our busy programme of off-site Dr Bikes & fleet servicing, alongside our on-site traditional repair workshop.
- Manage the day-to-day maintenance of all pool bikes and external fleet bikes, ensuring timely repairs, accurate records and regular communication for routine repairs
- Maintain records and paperwork relating to repairs services, and report these to corporate clients where necessary
- Courses
- Programme, develop and ensure the delivery of high quality bike maintenance training courses (some are Velotech accredited) to individuals, schools, businesses & community groups
- Work with the Programme Coordinator to ensure courses are scheduled and publicised on our website and elsewhere.
- Personnel
- Ensure all maintenance services are fully staffed by trained and fully briefed mechanics to ensure the quality of service is consistently high
- Be responsible for recruiting and managing a team of mechanics appropriate for the needs of the business
- Finance & Service Development
- Provide maintenance services quotes to business clients
- Ensure all bills and expenses from the repairs services, courses and the mechanic team are recorded on our finance system
- Reporting & Support
- Staff the bike shop and reception on duty days, including facilitating test rides and answering customer enquiries (shared amongst all staff)
The Candidate:
We are looking for positive individual with proven team coordination or management skills.
You’ll be a team player, happy to jump in and help, but equally have excellent personal organisation skills and time management, with the proven ability to deliver on your agreed outcomes.
Finally, you’ll share our strong social aims to support and encourage cycling at all levels and abilities and will ideally be a cyclist yourself
