Our values guide everything we do, and everything we do has an impact on the people who live here.

We are looking for an inspiring, motivated team player with a positive ‘can do’ attitude to promote the creation, protection and enhancement of the District’s landscape, ensuring that it is an integral part of the District’s growth and place making agenda.

You will be joining a council that has ambitious plans to deliver increased levels of new homes and jobs through its recently adopted Local Plan and a New Settlement DPD that will shape the delivery of 3,000 new homes in the district. You will ideally have experience of dealing with complex landscape issues associated with major development schemes and be able to ensure high standards of landscape and Green Infrastructure design are integrated with new development.

Harrogate is a beautiful district offering a superb quality of life with a strong local economy and unrivalled natural environment. The District’s landscape is rich and varied; including the nationally protected landscape of Nidderdale AONB alongside locally designated Special Landscape Areas. Our district is both urban and rural in nature, having large, sparsely populated areas alongside the major urban settlements. In short this is a good place to live and work.

You will have post qualification experience in landscape design/architecture. Working as part of a friendly, multi-disciplinary Policy & Place team you will provide specialist landscape input into the New Settlement DPD, Review the Landscape Character Assessment, alongside the assessment of development proposals accompanied by landscape and visual impact assessments. You will be an effective decision maker, able to build strong working relationships and be driven to achieve challenging objectives.

Benefits of working here include flexible and agile working, generous annual leave allowance, options to buy additional leave, leisure facility discounts and the option to join the Local Government Pension Scheme.
