Job Title: Regional Welfare Officer
Location: North Wales area
Salary: £18,958 – £21,064 per annum (Actual Salary based on 30 hours per week)
Job type: Part time, Permanent (30 hours per week)
The Trust is a highly regarded charity operating throughout the UK who are looking for an experienced Welfare Officer to visit beneficiaries of a welfare programme.
Job Purpose:
To visit beneficiaries in necessitous circumstances, identify their needs and put in place appropriate services/benefits enabling them to remain as independent as possible in their own home.
Key Responsibilities:
- To visit beneficiaries in their own homes. Main visiting areas are Prestatyn, Rhyl, St Asaph and Denbigh with very occasional longer distance visits
- To carry out assessments on beneficiaries and make the appropriate referrals
- To visit new retirees and assess for levels of visits required
- To respond to any Connections queries
- To accept and make referrals to/from external bodies and take appropriate action
- To acquire a full knowledge of the Welfare Programme, a working knowledge of State Benefits and all the other associated benefits available to older people
- To attend Regional Welfare Officer Meetings in St Helens and any appropriate training activities (occasional overnight stay)
- To represent the Trust on external bodies as and when required
- To maintain accurate and up to date administration records
- To identify and arrange various pensioner activities, e.g. Reunion lunches and Social Groups, outings
- To carry out assessments for the Trust Fund’s respite care home
Skills and Experience:
- Diploma in Welfare Studies or qualification of same standard (hold or willing to achieve)
- Previous experience working with older people in unsupervised situations
- Previous experience in assessing individual care needs
- Previous experience of lone working
- Basic computer skills required preferably certificated, e.g. New CLAIT
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
- Articulate and observant with a high level of tolerance
- Prepare and present written and verbal reports
- Good organisational skills and ability to plan and prioritise own workload
- Assess objectively using sound judgement and initiative
- Excellent organisational skills and flexibility essential
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office essential
- Have empathy and be of a caring nature showing personal warmth but able to cope with emotional situations showing respect for confidentiality at all times
- Able to travel around North Wales area and occasional longer distance visits
- Committed to continued professional development
- Able to analyse a situation and take appropriate action using sound judgement and initiative
- Should be able to work under pressure
- Clean driving licence
- Must have use of own car at all times
