Job Title: Business Development Manager
Location: Manchester
Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 plus Commission – OTE £75k-90k (Uncapped Commission)
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent
The Company, natural & smoke ventilation specialists, are currently looking for a Business Development Manager to join their busy team. They’ve been trading since 1988 and are one of the leading specialists in their field and supply products in the UK to both individuals and trade customers alike.
Your role will be selling and promoting their products and services at the highest achievable gross margins and with zero rectification costs.
The Role:
To maximise sales profitability, growth and account penetration within the assigned territory. You will be effective in selling the company’s broad product portfolio within a targeted range of project values.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Sales
- Maintain and develop the current client base within the defined sales area through a relationship-based approach
- The ability to be confident in presenting to any type of groups
- Identify and nurture new business opportunities within the defined sales area
- Ensure that all customer enquiries are responded to and actioned in a timely fashion
- Use all your skills and resources to assist customers in solving their business problems and look for every opportunity to positively differentiate the company from their competitors
- Rigorously pursue every suitable sales opportunity
Technical
- Ensure that you are have a good understanding of all standards and product information related to their projects
- Undertake scheme design for basic Smoke Ventilation schemes and with assistance from the Technical Manager / External Consultants on more complex projects
- In line with their policies & procedures understand and adhere to all relevant Health & Safety policies whilst at work
Administration
- Keep accurate electronic records of all communications and activities via the CRM
- Review and submit all quotations in person ( wherever able) on time with a detailed covering letter explaining the scope of the quotation
- Ensure that all received orders are handed to the Commercial Director with a completed handover form within 5 days of order receipt
- Attend post order meetings and provide support to the Project Manager as required
- Case studies wording for each project won is required including pictures and/or video of installed equipment
Key Requirements:
Essential
- GCSE English & Maths at grades C (or 5) and above
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate and negotiate at all levels
- Excellent numeracy skills is essential
- Good organisation skills that allow you manage your workload and adhere to strict deadlines
- Commercial awareness
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
- Able to work in a structured format that allows you to achieve your sales targets and work as part of the Team

- Attitude to try new ideas and formats
Highly Desirable
- Degree in Building Services or Mechanical / Electrical Engineering (or of technical equivalence)
- HNC / HND in Building Related Studies, or Business Studies (or of technical equivalence)
- A good track record of achievement over the last 2 years in performance targeted sales
- A good technical knowledge of Natural & Mechanical Smoke Control Systems
- Experience of working within the Construction Industry
- Experience selling to Architects, Consultants, Developers and Contractors
- Able to understand contract documentation and construction drawings
