Job Overview:
The Graphic Designer will have an excellent appreciation for brand and design craft, producing work that is highly innovative, yet stays true to Ulster Weavers Home needs. The post holder will have strong conceptual aptitude and creative flair. The role requires a sound knowledge of current design principles, industry standard software and a thorough understanding of print buying and print requirements.
The Graphic Designer should have a hunger to keep learning, matched by an ability to multi-task, working across several diverse projects at any one time. The role will require excellent interpersonal and social skills. The post-holder should be confident in their own ability, comfortable when presenting ideas to colleagues, have an acute sense of detail, balanced with the ability to work accurately and independently.
Purpose of this Job:
The overall purpose of this position is to create design solutions for brand communications that inspire and engage audiences worldwide, whilst remaining on-brand and on-brief.
The Graphic Designer will be responsible for all aspects of design, leading campaigns from concept to design, visualising spaces and environments, websites and user interfaces, print and physical collateral. The post-holder will be ambitious, adaptable and of course, highly creative, seeking inspiration from a range of internal and external sources, and constantly striving to push the boundaries of their own creativity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work within a team environment to deliver designs with high visual impact for brand communications; from packaging, promotional literature, POS, event/exhibition collateral, signage, branding, corporate communications to websites and digital displays, or fully integrated advertising campaigns.
- To develop design briefs by gathering information and being innovative in resolving design issues and requirements, whilst meeting cost and time constraints.
- To produce creative and relevant ideas and concepts for a variety of different 2D, 3D and digital media.
- To maintain the highest possible standards with particular emphasis on creative flair and attention to detail, across all aspects of graphic design from idea conception to provision of print ready artwork, to delivery of finished material.
- Provide an expert resource across Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
- Provide other design support when needed including image sourcing, scamping, concepts and layouts, designing presentations including incorporation of videos and pulling together supporting materials.
- Be the main point of contact for external designers and printers and ensure deadlines are met and material is printed to the highest quality.
- Under the guidance of the Design Director, keep track of expenditure, working within set budgets and ensure that financial records are kept up-to-date and that the financial procedures of UW Home are always complied with.
Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- Educated to degree level in a relevant subject such as graphic design, illustration, visual communication, or similar and 5 years’ experience gained within a creative agency or in-house manufacturing environment.
- Successful track record in a graphic design role in a complex organisation (defined as multi-site, multi-disciplinary, or having experience of delivering across a range of services in a changing environment).
- Experience at a strategic level in a graphic design role involving the management of brand communications – both above and below-the-line to include packaging, print and digital design.
- Experience successfully creating advertisements for digital channels including Google and Facebook to drive online sales.
- Excellent technical design skills and knowledge of layout principles, coupled with accuracy, attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, cooperative approach to work.
- Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite; specifically, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
- Experience of developing effective systems and procedures to ensure a consistent and professional output from the work of the department.
