The Portsmouth Grammar School is a leading co-educational school located in the historic heart of Portsmouth.
The Role
A vacancy has arisen for a Groundskeeper to join our groundskeeping team based at our Hilsea playing fields. The hours of work will be 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Saturday, where Saturday is the busiest day for sports fixtures, and thus Saturday working during term time is regularly required. Where Saturday morning working is required, it is expected a day off during the week will be taken in lieu, such that the 37.5 working hours are spread across five days each week. The normal school hours of work are from 8.30am to 4.30pm, inclusive of a 30 minute unpaid lunch break each day, however the role holder will be required to work flexibly as required by the Head Groundskeeper to cover some morning and evening in support of the sports programme, and on these days the hours of work would be adjusted accordingly.
The start date will be September 2024.
Main Responsibilities
- As a member of our groundskeeping team, be responsible for the maintenance of our school grounds and the preparation of playing surfaces
- To undertake tasks, as directed by our Head Groundskeeper
The Ideal Candidate
- A good standard of education, with excellent spoken and written English (essential)
- Previous experience of working in a team (essential)
- Grounds maintenance experience (essential)
- Horticultural qualifications and experience of operating machinery relevant to the role
- Motivation to work with children and young people
- Ability to work collaboratively
- Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people
- A willingness to engage in CPD relevant to the role
